The nautical lantern is a traditional Cape Cod style lantern with deep roots in colonial history. The lanterns would have been used on ships of all kinds, including the whaling vessels in the 1800's. These New England lanterns are available in copper, brass, and pewter; a more durable option than the tin that would have been used in Colonial times. The metal used today withstands the salty air, and requires little to no maintenance.
Many of the nautical lanterns use a special lens which optically intensifies the light, and some models are available with red or green glass.
